A jury has convicted a Newark woman who was accused of throwing her neighbor's dog into traffic.

Authorities say Haniyyah Barnes was charged with animal cruelty after she grabbed her neighbor's Shih Tzu and threw the dog into oncoming traffic back in August 2011. A police officer witnessed the act.

Authorities say Barnes was upset because the neighbors did not answer their door when she wanted them to move their car. The neighbors were allowing Barnes' mother to park in their driveway and she was blocked in at the time.

The jury did not reach a verdict on a burglary charge against Barnes. Prosecutors say Barnes kicked in the front door of her neighbor's home to get to the dog. Prosecutors say the plan to retry Barnes on the burglary charge.

Barnes faces up to five years in prison on the animal cruelty charges.
