A large crowd turned out in Princeton Tuesday to protest a ruling that would euthanize a dog.
About 100 people holding signs chanted "Free Congo!" outside of the Princeton Municipal Building. A judge ruled Tuesday that Congo, a German shepherd, will be euthanized for attacking a landscaper in June. The dog has been impounded since then.
Congo's owner, Elizabeth James, maintains the dog only attacked after the landscaper swung a rake at her other dog, and then pulled her toward the ground.
The landscaper denies the claim. He recently won a $250,000 insurance settlement for his injuries.
The family plans to appeal the decision to euthanize Congo, delaying the order.
Meanwhile, Princeton Animal Control Officer Mark Johnson said he's received more than 100 threats over the case.
"With my wife at home ? I'm very nervous about being at work," Johnson said. "Worrying that something is going to happen to my home while I'm not there to protect everybody."
