Former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey says a raid of city offices in Paterson "expedited" his decision to move the prisoners' re-entry program he oversees there.
Officials said the FBI in November searched for documents related to Paterson's use of federal funds to renovate a building that housed the New Jersey Re-Entry Corporation. McGreevey says the nonprofit subleased space in the building, which is owned by a church.
McGreevey's nonprofit hasn't been accused of any wrongdoing.
According to McGreevey, the organization would've eventually had to move out of its current space to accommodate its growing number of clients.
Editor's Note: The Associated Press previously erroneously reported on which building was raided by agents and where a prisoners' re-entry program was housed. The raid was on city office buildings, not a building housing the New Jersey Re-Entry Corporation. Also, the program is based in a church-owned building, not a city building.
