South Jersey beaches used this weekend to gauge how social distancing guidelines could work during Memorial Day weekend and the upcoming summer season.
Beaches and boardwalks across the state are making changes to ensure new safety measures.
Asbury Park's boardwalk has been set up for one-way travel and masks are supposed to be worn by visitors.
Sandy Hook closed for about an hour on Saturday when it reached 50% parking capacity.
"I can only ask for people to try and have patience with each other and with law enforcement as we try and work through this," said New Jersey State Police Superintendent Col. Pat Callahan.
People must wear face coverings while entering or leaving the beach or restrooms. They are not required to do so while sunbathing or swimming.
