It was an unforgettable day for a group of New Jersey Little Leaguers that almost didn't happen. But a Jersey Proud effort, turned things around.
Unforeseen circumstances prevented the Elmora Troopers Little League team in Elizabeth from participating in this year's Cooperstown Dream Park Tournament.
The Jersey-based "Troopers United Foundation" stepped in to help.
With some help from the New York State Police, the nonprofit arranged a game for them at the historical Double Day Field in Cooperstown, New York.
They took on the Central Jersey Rebels and claimed victory 3-1.
More important than the win, however, was that the troopers also continued to honor first responders.
They wore the names and badge numbers of fallen New Jersey State Troopers on the back of their jerseys.
