Jersey City's mayor and top cop joined New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg Wednesday to implore Washington lawmakers to vote down a law that would have weakened gun control.
Mayor Jerramiah Healy and Jersey City Police Chief Tom Comey joined Bloomberg in voicing concern over the Thume Amendment, which would have allowed people to carry concealed weapons across state lines. Jersey City has seen a rash of gun violence in recent weeks, including the fatal shooting of a veteran police officer.
The measure fell two votes short of the necessary 60 votes needed to add it to a defense bill.
