Jersey City leaders are unveiling big plans for the Journal Square Arts District on Pavonia Avenue.
Mayor Steven Fulop says he will introduce an ordinance at Thursday night’s City Council meeting.
Fulop and other Jersey City officials want to build an 85,000-square-foot indoor space to house a museum and art gallery. It would be the future home of the Centre Pompidou X Jersey City.
Under Fulop’s ordinance, an art walk will connect Van Reipen Avenue to JFK Boulevard and the PATH Station.
A second reading of the ordinance is planned for next month.
Officials say they expect the new district to bring in more than $2 million each year.
