It's a touch of Paris in Jersey City.
The Centre Pompidou Museum in Paris is expanding to Journal Square.
The Jersey City Council approved a 30-year abatement for two 50-story towers that will include 100,000 square feet of space to house Centre Pompidou Jersey City.
The vote came despite public opposition to the project.
“Big things and great things take hard work and sometimes difficulty to achieve, but having a global institution, one of the largest collections of modern art in the world…creating their North American location in Jersey City is worth fighting for,” says Mayor Steve Fulop.
Construction on the museum is expected to begin in a year.
