A fire swept through an apartment building on Monticello Avenue off Orchard Street in Jersey City this morning.

Two victims are receiving treatment at Jersey City Medical Center. Thirty residents have been displaced.

There was one minor firefighter injury. The Red Cross is assisting displaced residents.

None of the injuries were considered life-threatening.

Pets were also rescued from the fire.

Smoke originated in the basement and filled the building. Over 20 people escaped via fire escapes, and pets were rescued by firefighters. Smoke detectors were working in the building, officials say.

The fire temporarily suspended some PATH train service due to smoke issues but trains are now operating.
