A man who is helping lead the charge in a campaign to make a Jersey City street safer says he has now become the target of threats.
When new traffic patterns turned Carlton Avenue from a one-way street to a two-way, Kristina Veintimilla began a petition against it. Richard Young, a man who was nearly hit by a car at the intersection, is one of 300 residents who signed the petition and is working to make it safer.
According to Young, drivers consistently ignore stop signs and drive too fast at the intersections. He is working to ensure the area is safe for pedestrians, but says he is now receiving threats as a result of his activism. Young claims to have been left notes demanding he ?stop or else? and telling him to ?think about his kids.?
"I don't understand why safety became a crime,? says Young. ?All I did was start a campaign when a child almost got hit. Other children are going to get hit by [a] car."
Police are investigating the threats made against Young.
