Utility crews across New Jersey are working long hours to try and get thousands of customers back online.
JCP&L spokesperson Todd Meyers says they have restored power to more than 570,000 customers, but there is much more work ahead.
"We're making tremendous progress to get the lights back on," says Meyers.
Meyers says the crews are working 16 hour days and are working through the weekend to get the power back. He says all of the power probably won't be restored until sometime Tuesday.
"That's how we make money is by spinning the meters so we want to get the lights back on as soon as possible as well, but paramount to that effort is safety. We can't cut any corners," says Meyers
Meyers says there are more than 3,000 linemen and more than 2,500 tree trimmers helping with the restoration.
"We've replaced hundreds of poles, hundreds of cross arms, about 68,000 feet of wire so there's a lot of stuff that gets knocked over by these trees and in order to get to the work we have to have a lot of tree trimmers come and clear that debris away, get the trees off the lines," says Meyers.
Meyers asks for the public's patience.
