A 5-month-old and two adults were killed early Saturday morning in a truck fire on the New Jersey Turnpike in Burlington County, authorities said.
The collision occurred about 2:15 a.m. in the southbound lanes near milepost 43.1, when a Freightliner hit the rear of a Volvo tractor-trailer, according to state police. The impact sent the Volvo off the roadway and caused the Freightliner to become fully engulfed in flames.
The driver of the Freightliner, 49-year-old Albert Speaks Plainfield, and two passengers — Kuirsten Simmons, 33, of Orange, and a 5-month-old infant — were killed in the crash. The driver of the Volvo, 35-year-old Elvin Camacho of North Bergen, suffered minor injuries, police said.
The crash remains under investigation, according to police.
