Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst will soon become New Jersey's third federal detention center.
Plans are moving to forward to put in place holding cells for undocumented immigrants on the property.
Delaney Hall in Newark and the Elizabeth Detention Center are the others.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said it would not get in the way of military operations or training.
The federal government has allocated $45 billion to open sites like Alligator Alcatraz in Florida and the joint base for immigrant detainees.
All signs that the arrest in New Jersey of undocumented workers aren't slowing down.
However, Democratic Rep. Rob Menendez, who protested against Delaney Hall opening, is opposing this move.
"We know that this administration has already over reached, and is already doing harmful things to our communities, we're hoping that that our friends across the aisle will also see the light and advocate to not take this step," said Menendez.
A private company called The GEO Group runs the Delaney Hall Facility in Newark.
It's not clear if a private contractor would be used to run the operations at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
Details of how or where detainees will be held on the property have not yet been released.
