Parts of Monmouth County could see a wide range of precipitation and um just like we're seeing here in the form of sleet coating the cars a little bit, Jim Murdoch is out seeing that right now in Freehold right now. He's over at the 30 Raceway Mall where the conditions have been changing, Jim. Yes, we've gone downhill here in a hurry, Eric, in Freehold Township right by the Raceway Mall. In fact, we have a mixture of moderate freezing rain and sleet, no snow to be found right now, but this is worse. This is worse than snow as one of the salt trucks comes by real quick, this is live TV. John, come on in here. You were just telling me. You were out on the roads and you almost wiped out, didn't you? What happened? Yeah, so I was thinking just like you were, we were going to get some snow and then all of a sudden I start spinning out and I'm like, oh, not snow, this is sleet. This is dangerous, you know, I probably shouldn't be out here as you're talking to us, Chris, talk, Chris, show Route 537 here. This is County Route 537. This is now. Becoming ice covered, how scary was that for you? This is one of the first times I've ever driven in weather like this, and you know, probably going to be one of the last because I don't want to be out here. What goes through your mind when you're when the back end starts to kick out and you're and you're gripping that wheel, holding on for dear life? Well, I was just hoping I got through the good part of the song, you know, that I was playing. Um, but I did, and luckily I didn't hit anything. All right, well, be safe getting home, John. Thank you very much real quick. I want to come back out here too. Let's come back on camera. Anywhere that's untreated is now being covered in ice and sleet. Look at this right here. This is the parking lot by the Ashley Home store. The movie theater at Freehold Raceway Mall. This is only in the last half hour, folks. In fact, come on over here. I want to show you what the freezing rain has done. Look at the mirror on our News 12 crew car. I'm going to take my glove off so you can see exactly the layer of ice that has already formed from the freezing rain. Now it's just a couple hundreds of an inch thick, but anything untreated now is getting a layer of ice, and that is almost more dangerous than snow. So we're going to continue to follow the situation here in Monmouth County again, freezing rain, sleet, no snow, unfortunately we're live in Freehold Township. Jim Murdoch, News 12, New Jersey. Yes, if you do have to be out, be careful. That's the type of conditions that can have a dome of ice on your car. Jim, thanks a lot.

So snowing up north, what's it doing a little bit farther south? Snow, sleet, ice. Parts of Monmouth County could see it all, and that's where we find our Jim Murdoch this evening. Jim, you started in Wall Town, Jim, now you're over in Freehold. What's it look like? Well, Eric, good evening to you and good evening to all of our viewers. Couple of stray flurries here, nothing to write home about, nothing like what Christine was seeing up there in Bergen County, but. See that you can see your breath now, which means it's starting to moisten up here with those flurries. Traffic moving north with the brake lights, south with the headlights heading towards Howell Lakewood, north towards Manalain. So this is the battle zone, and I want to bring in Sheriff Sean Golden from Monmouth County. Thanks for joining us this evening. This could be, yeah, it is cold out here. It could be a real tricky forecast for parts of Monmouth County. We're talking about snow, sleet, some freezing rain. How. the county prepare, yeah, depending on where that line is, right? So we could get some really freezing rain, but no matter what, we're going to have some treacherous conditions overnight. The good thing is it is overnight and, uh, rush hour. There is none tomorrow. So, uh, listen, our, our plows and our salt trucks are at the ready. Bob Compton, the head of public works here, doing a great job readying 285, uh, pieces of equipment that are ready to go for, uh, clearing the roads tomorrow morning. So you know, it's the usual if. If, if you don't have to be out, please don't, particularly in the morning when we know it's going to be more treacherous, uh, let the plows do the work and, uh, you know, stay safe out there, really take it slow on the roads if you have to be out there. Yeah, we're seeing a little bit of traffic on Route 9. This could be a treacherous corridor on a good day centers, and I, I, you know, I think a lot of people were at the food stores today, you know, just getting some stuff for the weekend, but at the end of the day, uh, we want everybody to take it slow and listen, um, when it comes to shoveling, take it. Easy, you know, we see those heart attacks happen or people get injured and slip on ice. We don't want to see it, particularly if you have elderly neighbors. Please help them out. Those are the kind of things that we're passing around here and our emergency management team by Scott Nielsen is at the ready. They've been monitoring the storm for the last couple of days, and you know we'll see what it brings. That is certainly a good piece of advice, Sheriff Sean Golden. Thank you so much. You too, Sheriff. Down here in this part of the county, a lot of sleet could fall, and that means. It'll be heavy if you have to shovel, if your body is not ready for that kind of exercise, have a neighbor or a family member help you shovel because sleep, you don't want to mess around with it. It is certainly heavy and much more difficult to clear away than snow. We'll see what happens. We'll stay here in Monmouth County throughout the evening and tonight, waiting on the storm here by the beach. We are live in Freehold along Route 9. I'm Jim Murdoch, News 12, New Jersey.
