Howell Township police are investigating a shooting near a barn housing pit bulls.
Police say that they received reports of gunfire Saturday morning near the 200 block of Lanes Mill Road. The man who called police says that he heard gunfire behind his house and then saw two men running away and getting into a getaway car, a silver Honda Civic.
The victim told police that he tried to chase them, but they shot at him. Bullet holes were found in a structure where he breeds his pit bulls. None of the dogs were injured.
News 12 New Jersey is told that the victim was supposed to breed two prize-winning dogs and that a rival may be to blame for the shooting.
Anyone who may have any information about the shooting is asked to call the Howell Township police at 732-938-4111.
