A Monmouth County police chief is credited with stopping a knife-wielding driver during a road rage incident.

Howell police say that they received a call from a young woman who was driving on Route 9 with her family Thursday morning. That woman said that another driver began waving an 8-inch knife out of the window and was blocking their car from passing.

Police say that officers tried to pull over 51-year-old Diane Maloney, but she wouldn’t stop.

“She was driving extremely reckless,” said Det. Sgt. Christian Antunez. “Just total disregard for every law.”

Police say that Maloney finally pulled over and tried to run away, but Howell Police Chief Andrew Kudrick chased her down and she was taken into custody. She now faces a variety of charges.
