News 12 New Jersey has gone international.
An English as a second language teacher recently reached out to News 12 to tell us that he uses reporter Brian Donohue’s “Positively New Jersey” segments to teach his students English.
The students are from the Excellent Global language school in Minas Gerais, Brazil.
“Most of them are beginning, they have not been here for a long time but they have watched a lot of videos from you,” teacher and school owner Eduardo Moreira told Donohue.
The students enjoy Donohue’s reports so much that they filmed a special video telling him how much they love him.
Donohue says that he was so touched by the email and the video that he decided to teach them some real “New Jersey” phrases, such as “down the shore” and “How ya doin’?”
Moreira said the class had been using news reports from Utah in class, but they weren’t keeping the students' interest the way Positively New Jersey has.
