A special Infrared thermometer can detect how hot an object gets, such as asphalt, benches, swing sets and cars. News 12 New Jersey set out with the thermometer to see just how hot things got Tuesday.
The asphalt in West New York saw temperatures as high as 130 degrees throughout the day. Park benches, chairs and swing sets saw temperatures in the 90s. The News 12 car registered a scorching 111 degrees after being closed up in the sun.
Residents are urged to stay cool during the hot, humid weather. They are also asked to conserve energy and check on the elderly in the extreme heat.
