Homeowners are being urged to verify credentials and stay on alert following reports of door-to-door scammers tampering with water lines.

The West Caldwell Police Department issued an urgent safety alert advising community members to exercise extreme caution and protect their properties. Residents are instructed never to allow unfamiliar individuals into their homes or onto their property without officially verifying their identity and professional credentials.

Homeowners should remain alert for anyone attempting to access, alter, or tamper with their water service lines. If someone claiming to be a utility worker raises suspicion, residents are advised not to confront them directly.

Authorities ask residents to report any suspicious activity immediately. Anyone who observes someone tampering with utility service or believes a crime is in progress should contact the West Caldwell Police.

Officials encourage residents to share this safety alert with neighbors, friends, and family members throughout the community to help keep neighborhoods safe.
