Jarrett Schanzer, a doctor who grew up in Holmdel, is looking for love, and went all the way to the United Kingdom to try to find it on a new dating series themed on early 19th Century England.

Schanzer now practices medicine in Miami. He is a contestant on "The Courtship,” competing with other bachelors to win the love of one woman, and that courtship conducted with the trappings of a castle, 18th century clothing, and customs.

Schanzer says he was ready to take a break from work to seek out a love connection.

"I found myself really focused throughout medical school and residency on becoming the best doctor that I could be for my patients and so when I finally have the opportunity to meet someone and connect,” says Schanzer. “I'm looking for someone on a more deeper level than just superficial."

"The Courtship" premieres on NBC on Sunday.
