After 376 summonses and 80 injuries at Saturday?s St. Patrick?s Day Parade in Hoboken, some are saying the festivities have gotten out of hand.
What was once a small celebration 23 years ago has grown into an event visited by tens of thousands of people every year along the streets of Washington Avenue. Of the 376 people summoned, the majority were for alcohol-related offenses. Hoboken?s public safety director says the parade is out of control.
"[The festivities] would have grown over the ability of the National Guard unit,? says Bill Bergin. ?That's how big it got."
The public safety director also stated that he wants to have extensive discussions with the mayor before finalizing plans for next year?s celebration.
