A 47-year-old Hoboken woman was sentenced to five years in prison for a fraud scheme.

Yezenia Castillo pleaded guilty on April 6 to stealing over $1.5 million from over 100 victims including nonprofits, private schools and religious institutions.

From 2012 through 2021, Castillo falsely claimed to be a CPA who could provide financial and accounting services to organizations throughout New Jersey. She was not able to provide any of the promised services.

Castillo stole from her victims in several ways including collecting fees for services she never performed, collecting funds and falsely claiming she would use it to pay taxes and more.

She defrauded over 100 victims.
