Good news for PATH riders: the Hoboken station will reopen Tuesday after being closed for a month-long renovation.
"I’m ecstatic!" and "I’m happy!" were just some of the reactions from PATH riders ahead of Tuesday's reopening.
The proverbial doors to the PATH station will open at 5 a.m., with the first 33rd Street bound train taking off at 5:06 a.m.
It was out with the old in Week 1 of the Hoboken PATH station shutdown. According to the Porth Authority, that first week focused on demolition to make way for the new.
Commuters, like Matthew Armendinger, from Jersey City, say they couldn’t be happier that the closure is now behind them.
"It’s been a little inconvenient just to say the least. I’ve had to use Exchange Place PATH station instead of Hoboken", Aremndinger said.
Commuters are still shuttling to and from Hoboken, but even with the inconvenience, several say the temporary arrangements have made for a smoother ride.
"I think logistically it was done pretty well with the bus transportation and the ferry just commuting people back and forth," said Michael Desousa, from Hoboken.
Anthony Vitale, also from Hoboken, agreed.
"They did a good job accommodating us with the ferry system they did an overall good job," said Vitale.
After a 25-day closure to address major repairs, customers can expect to see a new infrastructure in the station, complete with new rails, wider staircases and a modern, massive track switch.
"I’m excited to see what the changes look like and what they’ll be," Armendinger said.
According to the Port Authority, the full closure was to avoid shutting down the station over four weekends and imposing an additional 50 days of reduced service.
