The Hoboken City Council is still waiting to decide on whether or not to allow for the sale of recreational marijuana.
An informational session was held Thursday night on Newark Street for residents who wanted to learn more.
According to officials, the city has been approached by dozens of companies aching to set up shop and sell marijuana.
But it's a big decision which city residents are still learning about.
The meeting was put on by a councilman who supports adult use and is waiting for Trenton to approve legislation.
“Ultimately, at the end of the day, we need guidance from Trenton and that guidance hopefully, includes a robust economic opportunity for Hoboken to benefit off cannabis,” says Mayor Ravi Bhalla. "We think that if something was illegal before somebody shouldn't be penalized if it's legal now."
They also want to see what the sales tax will be to know what the revenue will be.
The mayor says five percent would be acceptable.
