One Newark deli has been making headlines recently, and it’s for all the right reasons. The Newark staple received a proclamation from the city recognizing it after being named one of the top 10 Jewish delis in America — and the only one in New Jersey — by food publication The Takeout.
Hobby’s Deli, located on Branford Place, has been open for more than 100 years and owned by the Brummer family since 1962, becoming a key part of Newark’s vibrant culinary scene.
“All we try to be, as my brother says, is better today than we were yesterday,” said Marc Brummer, one of the deli owners. “We work awfully hard. Our staff works hard. It’s certainly nice to be recognized, but you’re only as good as your last customer, and we want every customer to come back.”
From its deli pickles to its legendary corned beef in 50-gallon stainless steel vats, the deli offers all the classics you can think of.
