The Mahwah Historical Society is paying tribute to an old amusement park that once operated in New Jersey.
The society set up a replica of the Palisades Amusement Park, circa 1935. It was once located in Cliffside Park and Fort Lee before closing in 1971 at the height of its worldwide popularity.
Historians are trying to keep the park’s memory alive by collecting as many artifacts as they can for people to enjoy.
“Probably one of the most unusual things I have is a gravestone from a lion named King who used to perform at Palisades Amusement Park on a motorcycle,” says Executive Director Vince Gargiulo.
Gargiulo says that he has also found items on eBay, in souvenir shops and from people who have donated items that they once owned themselves.
