High school student burned by ‘rocket experiment’
A Perth Amboy High School student was hospitalized after he suffered facial burns from chemicals used during science class.
Students tell News 12 New Jersey that the teen was participating in a “rocket experiment” during eighth period chemistry class. The students say that the class was being held outside near the school’s athletic field.
Sophomore Ariel Diaz was in the class when it happened.
“It felt like an explosion hit his face. It was quick. He couldn’t get out of the way…it was bound to happen,” Diaz says.
Students say that the teen seemed to be seriously injured and ran back into the school for help. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
News 12 New Jersey reached out to the school district for comment but has not yet heard back.
