The Trenton Public School District said that elevated levels of lead have been found in water fixtures at eight of its elementary schools.
The district?s findings were the result of lead tests at water sources in 10 elementary schools. School officials said that they have turned off all fountains and sinks. They have assured parents that the water is no longer a threat to children.
Some of the schools included Grant, Columbus, Gregory and Washington.
School officials are not sure how lead got into their water but they are confident that there is not a widespread contamination.
Health officials say exposure to lead can be dangerous for children and has been known to cause seizures, comas and permanent learning problems.
The district is planning to test 14 more schools very soon while replacing pipes and fixtures in those already affected.
