Barney – a purple T-Rex that entertained children in the 1990s and 2000s – is set to make a grand return.

Mattel announced on Monday the Barney franchise will return with a new animated series set to debut in 2024. The franchise will also include film, YouTube content, music and “a full range of kids’ products including toys, books, clothing and more.”

Mattel also says that apparel for adult fans featuring Barney’s classic design is also in development.

“Barney’s message of love and kindness has stood the test of time,” Josh Silverman, chief franchise officer and global head of consumer products at Mattel wrote in a statement. “We will tap into the nostalgia of the generations who grew up with Barney, now parents themselves, and introduce the iconic purple dinosaur to a new generation of kids and families around the world across content, products, and experiences.”

“Barney and Friends” first debuted on PBS in 1992. The series ended in 2010.
