Video from inside a Rumson mansion is going viral because a firefighter captured firefighting efforts on camera.
Flames, embers, smoke and heat greeted firefighters from the Sea Bright Fire Rescue unit as they entered the mansion on Monday. The fire department was assisting Rumson firefighters.
Sea Bright Fire Chief Chad Murphy had been wearing the camera on his now-charred helmet, providing a rare view of what it is like to fight an intense fire. The department "records" almost all of its calls for training and to educate the public, and has been doing so for about seven years.
"I hope the general public sees what we do," says Sea Bright Deputy Fire Chief Brett Murphy, who is Chad's brother. "We don't get paid for this."
Investigators say the fire, which was ruled accidental, started in a wall on the second floor of the home.
The home was a historic mansion that was about to play host to a charity event for the Visiting Nurse Association, which is looking for another venue.
