Heavy rains left behind water rescues and flooded streets in parts of Westchester County on Sunday.

People who work on Boston Post Road in Port Chester told News 12 that the street was hit hard.

"It was like a river, to be honest," said a man who works in the area.

Not far away, on Midland Avenue, Sean Graham said things were also rough.

“You could see cars getting stuck. It was actually really bad. Where the road and sidewalk met, the water literally merged together, and it was flooded," Graham explained.

Emergency crews in Port Chester told News 12 they answered dozens of calls and helped people who were stuck in their cars, as that rain came down hard.

Other Westchester communities were also hit, like Rye.

“We had one water rescue - three gentlemen - from the top of a vehicle. They were totally fine, just stuck and it was too deep and fast-moving water to actually walk through. We deployed our inflatable boat to get them out," said Rye Fire Department Capt. Clyde Pitts.

The mayor of Port Chester told News 12 that crews were out like usual clearing catch basins and drains but Sunday's rain came down quickly and there was a lot of it.

He also said they’ve put a lot of work into flood mitigation and that will continue.

“I'm going over with my village manager and engineer to take a look at what we can do to help the community. It’s tough, especially when you expected the rain, but we didn't expect this magnitude. It came so fast," said Port Chester Mayor Luis Marino.
