A public hearing Wednesday night sought answers for a possible age limit for renting hotel rooms in Seaside Heights.
The Borough Council took up the discussion that pitted local residents tired of noise and underage drinking against hotel owners looking for business.
They discussed two options, one requiring customers to be 18, while the other requires them to be 21. One attendee suggested hotels should be fined when their guests are busted for underage drinking or causing damage.
Locals who live near popular hotels spoke at the meeting. So did many hotel owners.
The owners say that an age limit would further their financial struggles, especially this time of year, when proms and graduations bring in plenty of money.
The council did not reach a decision on the proposal at Wednesday’s meeting.
