WEATHER ALERT: The National Weather Service has issued an air quality alert for the remainder of the day.
Fair weather continues to move further and further away from the East Coast. This will allow the winds to be more from the southwest. Warmer, dare I say hotter and muggier, air will continue to travel from the Carolinas and Midwest and plop down fully on our New Jersey lap tomorrow.
The normal high temperature for June 5 is 78 degrees. The record is 95 degrees in 2021. We should see our daily highs hit 92 degrees tomorrow. It’s pretty warm for this time of year, but I don't think it'll be a record-breaker. Muggier air is also making the trip. So that 92 degrees will feel more like 95 or 96 degrees.
There is a very small chance that an isolated thunderstorm will crop up in Sussex/ northern Warren/ Western Morris and Passaic counties. Nothing widespread. Very isolated, but possible.
A better chance for more consistent rain and storms in northwestern New Jersey is Friday. The beaches should be fairly sunny most, if not all, of the afternoon hours.
The weekend, unfortunately, will have clouds at a premium with passing showers. I don't think Saturday or Sunday is a total washout. Generally speaking, for both days of the upcoming weekend, a grand total of 0.25 inches of rain would collect. It's more of a nuisance than a washout.
Since March 1, there have been 14 weekends (We are going into our 15th). Seven of those weekends have featured measurable rainfall of .02 inches or more – half of our weekends! If you accept a trace as a unit of measure, then 71% of our weekends since March have been crummy. Let's hope that after this weekend, the weather pattern begins to change.
