Businesses in a Camden County town are coming together to support the owner of an ice cream shop who tragically passed away last week.
Gracie’s Ice Cream owner Anthony Manscalco unexpectedly died last week, rocking the small town of Haddonfield.
“It was just very, very upsetting news and when I heard this I was just beyond words upset,” says Sweet T’s Bakeshop owner Toni Moshen.
“[The Manscalco family] are the nicest people and we are beyond devastated for them and their family,” says Paper Trail manager Teresa Morrone. “They are totally in our prayers. He’s one of our own, and we all need to stand together and help our own. Anything we can do.”
Haddonfield business owners decided to create a day of giving to honor Manscalco.
“There are almost about 20 businesses participating today and really, it’s not a special menu change or anything, but just go support. Go get dinner, go buy a cake, place an order at one of the stores on the list,” says Moshen.
The businesses participating in the event are donating 20% of their sales to the Manscalco family.
“It’s a small part that we play in an overall piece of healing that they are going to be going through,” says Jaden Little of The Hive.
“We are a small community, a little hometown and if we don’t help each other, who’s going to?” says Morrone.
The money raised is in addition to more than $14,000 raised by a GoFundMe page.
“Even though it’s so hard right now during COVID to give, everyone in the town is giving as much as they can, even though they can’t, they’re finding it from somewhere and helping out and it’s really something special,” says Moshen.
Organizers of the Giving Day and GoFundMe are hoping to raise $20,000 for the family.
