A 7-year-old boy died Friday after contracting a rare strain of E. coli a week earlier.
The boy had been sent home from school sick on June 14. Health officials have ruled out cafeteria food as a source of the illness, but the Hackensack Health Department and state Department of Health are still investigating the incident.
Health officials say that the boy?s death should be an isolated incident as the eight-day incubation period for E. coli has passed.
The school has made grief counselors available to students affected by the loss of their classmate.
