A driver was arrested after a traffic stop in Bridgeton turned into a foot pursuit, police said.

The stop happened around 11:41 p.m. on May 1, when members of the Street Crimes Unit and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle, according to police.

Authorities said the driver got out of the vehicle and ran. The vehicle then crashed into a dumpster at the Amity Heights Apartment Complex.

Police said the driver was seen with a handgun while fleeing and discarded the firearm and suspected crack cocaine before being apprehended.

The recovered gun was defaced and equipped with a high-capacity magazine and tracer rounds, according to police.

The vehicle was towed pending a criminal search warrant.

Police did not immediately release the driver’s name or charges.
