A concerned group of citizens in Old Tappan has organized a petition to save a pre-revolutionary section of their town.
The planning board has approved a 31,000-square foot assisted living facility, on residential single home property in the middle of town.
According to the group, the lot includes environmentally sensitive wetlands, a vernal pool, and the historic Gerrett Hearring House, built in 1750, on the national registry since 1986.
There are less than 200 of these homes left in Bergen County.
