An effort is underway to bring a mosque community center to Bayonne.
The nonprofit group Bayonne Muslims wants to bring the center along 24th Street and Avenue F. The group says it is getting cramped in the basement they are currently renting out along Avenue C. The group provides service to around 200 families.
As of Monday night, the group has reached its goal of $1 million. The group says it will provide off-street parking for the Islamic center, and that its busy hours are on Friday afternoons.
Bayonne city planners say the group has not yet submitted a site plan or application for the mosque to the city. Bayonne's mayor says that he is open to bring more diversity to the community.
