Greenwich officials announced Thursday the town is suspending its school zone speed camera program until further notice.

First Selectman Fred Camillo says the town received complaints regarding the cameras which led to an internal review. Following the review, officials discovered that the process used to approve the cameras were not properly completed as required.

Camillo says there should have been a public hearing before the cameras were implemented. He says the town will resuming using the cameras once the approval process is completed.

He the suspension does change the town or police department's commitment to improving roadway safety for all residents. He adds that the cameras did result in speed reductions and the department will monitor areas where these reductions happened.
