A Wayne car wash owner known for going green had a roadblock thrown his way after a vote Wednesday to deter him from making clean energy.
Robert Burke and Wayne Auto Spa want to build a wind turbine at the shop to generate energy. The car wash already utilizes recycled water and solar panels, but its latest eco-friendly idea has met strong opposition from neighbors and the Wayne Town Council.
The town council passed an ordinance banning any type of turbine within 1,640 feet from a school or residence. Wayne Auto Spa is located about 100 feet from the Goddard School.
Goddard School officials support the ordinance.
"It's the unknown," says Kimberly Scott. "We won't know for 15 to 20 years what the effects are ? and do we really need to take a chance with children?"
Burke says he's offered compromises, including moving the turbine further from the road and lowering it. The owner says he now may take his battle to court.
