A state grand jury has declined to bring charges against police officers in a deadly shooting in South Brunswick last year.

Shamar Leggette, of Brooklyn, was killed in a shootout with members of the U.S. Marshals Service at a motel along Route 1 in the Monmouth Junction section of town on Jan. 24, 2024.

Leggette was wanted in connection with several felony investigations.

Officials say Leggette was on the run from the law for a year and a half when U.S. Marshals and ATF agents caught up with him.
