Governor Jon Corzine (D-NJ) resumed his duties Monday for the first time since an SUV accident on April 12 left him in critical condition.
Gov. Corzine will be working out of the governor's mansion in Princeton. He is expected to use video-conferencing to communicate with staff at the Statehouse. He'll also continue physical therapy three times a day as he heals from 11 broken ribs, a broken collarbone and sternum.
The governor says even though Monday marks his first day back, he's already hard at work. "I would go crazy if I wasn't doing things," Corzine said.
As far as the controversial non-use of his seatbelt, Corzine said he would likely not publicize the issue. "I'm going to do some things on this seat belt issue," Corzine said. "Maybe it will be silent because people will mix it up with purposes that I'm trying to self agrandize on politics."
Corzine also shared his memories of the accident with reporters.
"I felt a tap on the right hand side of the car, something hit, got my attention," Corzine said. "The next thing I know, we're in a spin and the drivers side of the car is going at this mid rail and you have me in this slow motion moment, where you know something not good is going to happen."
Corzine's spokesperson says for now, the governor's work will be confined mostly to matters of policy.
