With the press of a pen, Governor Corzine (D-NJ) officially enacted a tougher window guard law meant to protect children who live in high-rise apartments.
The law dictates that all apartments where children live must have window guards. Residents who choose to open their windows can do so, but only if they do not go any higher than four inches above the guard.
The law comes nearly a year after a little boy fell from a Newark apartment. The law is named for three little boys who were killed in falls from Newark high-rise buildings.
