New Jersey is just a few days away from the unofficial start to summer. Lakes and beaches are getting ready, and if numbers from beaches that were already open this
past weekend are anything to go by, there shouldn't be too much of an issue.

In terms of weather, the past weekend was gorgeous, and in terms of social distancing, Gov. Phil Murphy says the weekend was "decent."
There were no serious incidents this weekend at some of New Jersey's beaches and boardwalks that are already open, similar to when state and county parks opened again, meaning there are no plans to back out of opening the rest of the beaches and boardwalks on Memorial Day weekend.

Gov. Murphy and New Jersey State Police Superintendent Col. Patrick Callahan do have one complaint.
"There's far too little face masks, face coverings going on right now in public places,” says Gov. Murphy. “Again, if you're inside of a store, you've got to wear them, but I'm talking about at the beach or at the boardwalk or in a park."
Gov. Murphy has stressed it's not required to wear a face covering outside, but it is highly recommended.
