Gov. Phil Murphy is expected to sign six gun control bills passed by the state Legislature Thursday.
The governor posted on Twitter that he plans on signing these bills into law Wednesday.
“Today, New Jersey passed sweeping gun safety legislation, including measures to expand background checks, reduce magazine capacity, and keep firearms out of the wrong hands,” Murphy tweeted.
One bill would require the seizure of firearms when a mental health professional determines someone poses a threat. Another would require background checks for private gun sales.
The bills were introduced after the mass high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 people dead Feb. 14.
Murphy says that once he signs the bills, New Jersey will have some of the toughest gun laws in the nation.
