Gov. Phil Murphy has signed a law saying utility companies cannot cut off service for 90 days for customers with a medical issue if they go without paying.
The law is named after Linda Daniels, who died last year when her oxygen tank lost power after PSE&G had disconnected her electricity.
The law states, twice a year, utilities must request information from customers to verify who is on life sustaining equipment.
