Gov. Phil Murphy says that he will work alongside Donald Trump when he is sworn in as the 47th president because it is in the best interest of the people of New Jersey.
Murphy said that the first three years he was in office, he stood against Trump on issues like women’s rights, common sense gun safety policies and protecting immigrant communities. The governor says that he will continue to fight for those things.
But he noted that during Trump’s first term, they worked together on providing safety during the COVID-19 pandemic and authorizing the Portal North Bridge Project – one of the country’s most critical infrastructure projects.
But one of the issues that is still up on the air is offshore wind energy – something that Trump campaigned against.
"That's going to be an interesting one…is he gonna do what he said versus prosecute a different agenda? One of the realities of winning both the White House of the U.S. Senate is you get to put through your team with very little pushback regardless of where the House lands,” Murphy said. “Everything from judges to the head of environmental protection to secretary of state - everyone in between, they’re gonna have a free reign. Just got to see what his actions are versus words in the campaign trail.”
Trump has said he would scrap all offshore wind projects on day one in the White House.
