Gov. Phil Murphy visited a Bloomfield synagogue that was subject to an arson attempt over the weekend.
Police say a masked man was seen on surveillance video lighting a bottle of accelerant on fire and throwing it at Temple Ner Tamid. The bottle broke, but the fire did not spread.
The governor denounced the act on Tuesday.
“It’s a despicable act. I know law enforcement at all levels is pursuing this and I’m here tonight with the ambassador to say unequivocally we will not relent. We will have the backs of communities like this all around our state,” Murphy said.
Authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
