Gov. Phil Murphy today
announced long-stalled redevelopment efforts for what’s now called Hoboken
Connect.
It includes new office and
retail space, affordable housing, and improvements to public infrastructure and
the surrounding streetscape at Hoboken Terminal.
“It’s a $176 million
investment with public infrastructure upgrades and improvements that are being
invested in Hoboken Connect through the state budget agreement,” says Murphy.
“Investments that will work alongside made by the city.”
The project will create
10,000 construction jobs and thousands more permanent positions.
Hudson Connect development
had stalled for 15 years but was reignited through various partners, including
New Jersey Transit and the city of Hoboken.
Mayor Ravi Bhalla says
affordable housing will make up about 20% of the project. Public investments will include
construction of a new bus terminal on Hudson Place while rail and ferry terminal
restoration will be made while utilizing historic preservation guidelines.
