The governor also announced two additional deaths related to the virus, bringing the statewide death toll to 11.
State Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said that the two new fatalities were an Essex County man in his 30s and a Bergen County man in his 50s. Persichilli said that one of them had underlying health issues. The other was still under investigation.
Murphy made the announcement from Bergen Community College – the site of the state’s first mass drive-through testing facility. Murphy stated that over 600 tests were conducted and that the site had to cut off new tests by noon because it was at capacity. The governor said that only people who are experiencing symptoms of the virus should get tested, so as to not overstress the testing sites.
An additional site at PNC Arts Center in Holmdel is expected to open on Monday.
Murphy continued to urge New Jerseyans to practice social distancing and to practice basic personal hygiene. The governor said that the state would most likely “tighten the screws” on social distancing guidelines over the weekend.
The governor said between New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, the states will need $ 100 billion to get through the emergency.
